Our Programs
The Waldo County Humane Society sponsors several programs to benefit the citizens and animals for WALDO COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY
Spay and Neuter Assistance Program We offer certificates to assist the pet owner with the cost of spaying or neutering their pet. The program is for those who cannot afford to have the spaying or neutering done. The Waldo County Humane Society feels that spaying and neutering is one of the most responsible things a pet owner can do and therefore we will assist those who need help. If you want to have your pet spayed or neutered and do not feel that you can afford to do it, please contact us to learn more about our program. Please call: 852-5033
WCHS Emergency Fund The Waldo County Humane Society operates the WCHS Emergency Fund. The Fund provides assistance to the owner of an injured animal. The program will assist with emergency veterinarian bills in the amount of 40% of the bill to a maximum of $250.00. Referrals to this program come through the Veterinarian. Again this is a program for those with financial need. Rabies Clinics The Waldo County Humane Society sponsors free rabies clinics in spring and early fall of each year. These clinics offer the opportunity for everyone to have their pet immunized against rabies. Each year we rotate among the different towns of Waldo County so that hopefully everyone will have the chance to bring their pet to the clinic that is close to them.
Stanley Drinkwater/Waldo County Humane Society Animal Sanctuary The Stanley Drinkwater/Waldo County Humane Society Animal Sanctuary is located on Pound Hill Road in Northport, Maine. The property is located just off Route 1 . Many years ago Stanley Drinkwater left to the WCHS this property for the establishment of an animal sanctuary. Recently, the Society has had the means to start work on the site. We currently have a parking lot, the entire property lines blazed and marked and we will be starting in the spring of the creation of walking trails. We would like to encourage all those with an interest in helping create a system of trails in the Spring to contact us. Many hands will be needed to complete this phase of the project. The Sanctuary is open to the public but we do ask that you respect the property and the property of those adjoining the Sanctuary. Naturally, there is no hunting, fishing or trapping allowed on the premises. Motor vehicles are only allowed in the parking lot and not on trails.
